Charges Dropped Against 2 Officers in the 2020 Killing of Rayshard Brooks at an Atlanta Wendy’s

Charges were dropped against two Atlanta police officers that shot Rayshard Brooks dead in 2020. On Tuesday during a news conference, special prosecutor Pete Skandalakis announced he will no longer be pursuing charges against officers Garrett Rolfe and Devin Brosnan.

In June 2020, the police officers attempted to arrest Brooks at a Wendy’s parking lot after they received a call that he fell asleep in the drive thru line. At some point Brooks attempted to run away, and he was shot. This resulted in a protest by angry citizens who burned the fast food restaurant down.

Initially, Garrett Rolfe and Devin Brosnan were charged criminally and Rolfe was given an additional charge of felony murder. The special prosecutor on the case now claims the shooting was justified by saying that the use of deadly force was reasonable.
