Uvalde school board fired the district’s police chief Pete Arredondo

It’s been three months since the school shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, TX that claimed the lives of 19 children and two teachers. The school board has decided to terminate the contract of the district’s police chief, Pete Arredondo. There has been lots of public scrutiny since the deadly shooting.

In response, Uvalde’s Superintendent of Schools and parents recommended that Arrendondo be fired. State officials identified Arredondo as the on-scene police commander, though he has said he did not consider himself in charge.

The attacker remained in two adjoined classrooms for more than an hour before officers entered the building and killed him. The delay contradicted widely taught protocol for active shooter situations that call for police to immediately stop the threat and came even as children inside repeatedly called 911 and begged for help.
