Missing South Carolina Woman Found Dead in the Bathroom at Belk Store

A 63-year-old Columbia, SC worker was found dead in the bathroom at a department store.

The woman, Bessie Durham, worked as a janitor. She worked for a company that was contracted to clean the Belk store at Columbiana Centre. 

She was found dead on Monday, September 19 at 8pm after being missing for days. Durham was last seen on Thursday, September 15 going into the bathroom at the store. 

She walked into the bathroom at 7am, left her cleaning cart outside of the restroom and wasn’t removed from the bathroom until she was found dead the following Monday.

The company Durham worked with said that Belk is assisting the authorities to figure out what exactly occurred.
